About

Originally from the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Alasdair is a recent graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Known by family and friends as “Dair” - the nickname his parents always used - many of his earlier clips were published with this name as the byline. As a freelance investigative journalist and photographer, his work focuses on unraveling the details of how marginalized communities are impacted by environmental and social justice issues throughout North Carolina and the South.

His work has been published in The Assembly, Facing South, The News and Observer, DCReport, and elsewhere. While he remains based in North Carolina, he plans to extend the scope of his work throughout the United States, Central America, and the Caribbean.

In his spare time, Alasdair enjoys surfing and sailing when located on the coast, hiking and backpacking in more mountainous regions, and exploring the world’s art and food in an attempt to improve his own painting and cooking.
